Fluminense win the Copa Libertadores for the first time
Fluminense Lifted the Copa Libertadores for the very first time at the iconic Maracana stadium in Rio de Janiero after a 2:1 victory against Boca Juniors thanks to a chaotic John Kennedy substitute appearance.

With the game having gone to extra time John Kennedy restored the lead for Fluminense with a thunderous first time strike into the net. However his nature of celebration where he headed into the fans to celebrate resulted in the referee showing a second yellow card for the substitute in the 101st minute.
With Fluminense down to ten men, Frank Fabra decided to make Boca Juniors challenge even harder as he was sent off for slapping Nino across the face to make it ten men each.
Germán Cano opened the scoring in spectacular style as he smashed home into the bottom corner in the 36th minute . With the game stuck at 1-0 for 36 minutes, Luis Advíncula opened the door back up with a curling long range strike which finished up in the lower right corner.
This win for the Brazilian side means that they will represent South America in the Club World Cup in December where they could face Manchester city in the final.

Fluminense started the game in exciting fashion , having the majority of possession and getting the first chance of the game through Paulo Henrique Ganso who headed it straight at Sergio Romero
Minutes later, with Boca Juniors forced to feed off to the little scraps that were available, Miguel Merentiel chose to ignore Edison Cavani and shot straight at an unfazed Lopes Maciel.
Copa Libertadores top goalscorer Germán Cano failed to make contact with an attempted bicycle kick which flew just over him which resulted in cheers from the Argentinian fans.
These cheers didn't last long though.
After his original failure of making the headlines with his picturesque bicycle kick pose, Cano slotted home into the bottom corner when he escaped from his defenders path to meet Keno's pass to put the Brazillian side ahead.
With their fans pushing the team on to grab a second , Keno broke free down on the right who looked for Cano in the middle but Boca keeper Romero dived to intercept the cross from meeting with the looming forward.

With an electric atmosphere, Ezequiel Fernández provided the Thunder with a powerful volley straight at the keeper which almost knocked the 43 year old shot-stopper over.
The six time winners finally had their moment in this game. Wing- back Luis Advíncula strolled past a passive Marcelo before slotting home into the bottom right corner after an outside of the box effort.

Diogo Barbosa came agonisingly close at the death of the second half when his left footed strike curled away from the goal putting 30 more minutes on the table.
Fluminense Substitute John Kennedy restored the lead ten minutes into the first half of extra time when he hammered his first time shot into the net from the edge of the box. In the excitement of celebrations, he was shown a second yellow card for running into the fans and dismissed from the field of play with 20 minutes to play.
Things soon got out of hand with Frank Fabra slapping Nino, putting Boca Juniors down to ten men as well which created a feisty end to a long game.
Guga almost sealed the victory late on for Fluminense when his shot struck the post whilst Boca was pushing for an equalizer. It did not matter though as the Brazilian side were able to hold on to win their first ever Copa Libertardores.
