Brighton progress to the knockouts of the Europa League
Brighton and Hove Albion Beat AEK Athens 1-0 to progress into the knockout stages of the Europa league for the first time. This is their first ever time in the competition.
Europa League top goalscorer Joao Pedro scored the only goal of the game to give the Seagulls all three points in Greece. He calmly placed his penalty into the bottom right hand corner whilst also sending the keeper the wrong way.
Gacinovic was sent off for the home side in the 65th minute for a reckless foul to make their already difficult challenge harder.
An injury struck Brighton dug deep to pick up all three points against a driven AEK Athen's side who couldn't find the back of the net. Steven Zuber terrorised the Brighton defence while he was on the pitch but was unable to beat Bart Verbruggen.
Domagoj Vida was lucky not to be sent off as he committed many fouls while on a yellow card in a frantic final 15 minutes.
A spirited AEK Athens will have to beat Ajax in the final group stage game to qualify for the conference league. Brighton and Marseille will battle it out on the 14th of December to find out who will top the group.
