Pervis Estupinan Scores On His Return From Injury As Brighton Demolish Spurs.

28/12/2023

Brighton and Hove Albion beat Tottenham 4-2 despite a spirited attempt of a comeback by the visitors. Joao Pedro scored two penalties, Jack Hinshelwood smashed in his second goal for the club and Pervis Estupinan announced his return to the pitch with a goal. Even with two late goals for Tottenham, and nine minutes added on  they were unable to get anything from the game as they remain in fifth place.

Estupinan who came on at halftime, almost gifted Tottenham a goal when he messed up his touch. Luckily for Estupinan, Steele was able to save Richarlison's effort at goal. Almost out of nothing the Ecuadorian hit a perfect strike to add Brighton's third and mark his return from injury with a goal.

Young full back  Hinshelwood smashed his shot into the roof of the net which couldn't be reached by Guglielmo Vicario as the goalkeeper saw it flash past him. Pedro who joined from Watford in the summer and is the current top Europa League goalscorer, skilfully dribbled down from the left side and then played in Hinshelwood who was in acres of space to get his shot away.

Jan Paul Van Hecke rattled the post with his header from a corner and amongst the chaos off the rebound, Dejan Kulusevski grabbed Welbeck's shirt which gave away a penalty. Pedro stepped up and calmly slotted it into the left bottom corner to make it 2-0 to the Seagulls.  Brighton were awarded another penalty and Pedro stepped up again to add his second of the game and the Seagulls fourth.

Tottenham immediately started on the front foot with their high intensity style which we have seen so often in the Premier League this season but it was Brighton who grabbed the first dangerous chance. After Facundo Buonanotte's shot was blocked, Danny Welbeck struck the rebound at goal but was denied brilliantly by Guglielmo Vicario.

Brighton's 37 year old veteran James Milner, almost scored his first goal for the club but his curled effort was denied by the post. Facundo Buonanotte's well taken goal was ruled out, as the Argentinian was caught  by Tottenham's offside trap which meant the visitors still had a grasp on the game going into the second half.

After what seemed like a good start for Tottenham, the majority of the first half was dominated by Brighton with the visitors getting a minimal amount of chances. Richarlison came closest for Spurs when his first time shot hit the post on the brink of halftime.

Within 40 seconds of the second half starting, Richarlison had the ball in the back of the net but his position was offside therefore Brighton was let off with a warning with 44 minutes to play. The Brazillian then had a shot whistle past the post and another in the back of the net but it was once again ruled out for offside. Richarlison was soon replaced after this which meant  he was not going to get on the scoresheet today.

Tottenham youngster Alejo VĂ©liz socred a consolation goal and his first for the club. Defender Ben Davies gave his side  a glimmer of hope going into the last five minutes with a headed goal but the visitors were unable to produce a miracle comeback as Spurs remain in fifth place and six points from top spot.
