Chelsea sign Strasbourg defender Sarr for £12m

Chelsea have signed 19-year-old defender Mamadou Sarr from partner club Strasbourg for £12 million.

The Frenchman has signed an eight-year deal with the London club and is eligible to participate in the Club World Cup, which is being held in the United States.

The tournament begins on 14 June, but the Blues' first game is against LAFC two days later. Enzo Maresca's side will also face Brazilian side Flamengo and Tunisian champions ES Tunis in the group stage.

This season, the centre-back made 28 appearances in all competitions for Strasbourg and played a key role in helping Liam Rosenior's side finish seventh in Ligue 1, securing a spot in the Conference League play-offs.
