Manchester United are looking to sign David De Gea on a short-term deal as Andre Onana could be heading to Afcon.

The Spanish international was United's longest serving player before leaving in the summer after Onana's arrival. During his 12-year period at the club he picked up a Premier league winner's medal as well as a Europa league, Fa cup and Carabao cup.

The former United goalkeeper was kicked out of the club in the summer even after winning the golden glove with an incredible 17 clean sheets. As well as this he picked up the Premier league save of the month in February for his incredible reactions to keep out Kelechi Iheanacho.

His last golden glove award came in the in 2017-18 season after keeping 18 clean sheets in a single season.

De Gea had been heavily criticised in his final season at the Red Devils before his departure with some fans blaming their Fa Cup final loss on the shotstopper. "One fan said Another final and another disaster from David de Gea."

The former Premier league winner was at fault for two goals in last seasons league campaign and 17 errors in his English league career so far which is the most by any Spanish goalkeeper in the competition's history.

For 47 million pounds Manchester United would have been expected to see an improvement in their goalkeeping department but are yet to see this.

Last season's champions league finalist goalkeeper Onana has not got off to the brightest of starts in Manchester after conceding 13 goals in 9 premier league appearances and picking up 2 clean sheets.

However, this is one goal less than De Gea's start to last season who conceded 14 in 9 but the current unemployed goalkeeper still managed to record an extra clean sheet over the Cameroonian.

Onana will be looking to improve on his goals conceded per game on Sunday when Manchester United face their rivals Man city on Sunday.
