Euro 2024- Group C- Will Serbia or Slovenia provide an upset?

14/06/2024

Both Serbia and Slovenia have not competed in the Euros since 2000 but are now both in the same group for this years competition. Group C holds one previous winner of this competition and it is not England. Denmark won the Euros in 1992 and will be looking to impress once again. How will these teams fare this time around.

Here are my predictions.

1st place- Denmark.

Denmark are the only winners of the competition in this group and while it was almost 30 years Everytime I watch them, they look dangerous. With an all round solid squad they will be a tough side to break down and have the ability to stun sides on the counter. Specifically England will struggle against the Danes. You can expect a compact group of players who play together and have a very good sense of community.

2nd place- England

2020 Euro's runners up. Could this be the year they finally win it? Probably not but they will still be a tough side to beat. The quality of players available to Gareth Southgate in attacking positions will be useful when in search of a goal. With each player being able to bring something different to the side, Southgate will have tough decisions to make in those starting roles.Defensively there could be problems, With Stones there main centre back but a constant injury doubt and Shaw the only left back in the team, injuries could sway this decision as defence is the most important part of a side.  Denmark will shock England in a very boring game of football but they will finish second and progress into the knockouts.

3rd place- Slovenia

Slovenia will steal that third spot away from Serbia which sees them in third position.with an unbeaten record in 2024 so far and an impressive win against Portgual in March, Slovenia could take many by surprise. With highly rated youngster  Benjamin Sesko leading the line they have a dangerous threat in attack. Josip Iličić is also back in the squad after a difficult few years and he has the potential to threaten their opponents defence. Jan Oblak in goal will certainly be a problem for every other side in this group and they could do just enough to even finish second but only time can tell.

4th place- Serbia

While they are a very good side they wont be able to do enough to steal three points off any of the other three teams which will see them bow out of the tournament. With a solid midfield and terrifying front line they could definitely cause some harm and finish in first place. It is a tough all round group but out of all four teams I see them finishing last. The front line could be deadly with Aleksandar Mitrović and Dušan Vlahović and should not be thought off as an easy team to beat.

This group has the potential to be a very tight contest but who will come out on top and bow out? Leave your predictions in the comments.
