The 29-year-old defender could be set for another move just a year after joining Carlisle, with the recently relegated League Two outfit reportedly open to offers as they prepare for a major summer reset following a dismal campaign that saw them drop into the National League.
Thomas featured regularly throughout the 2024/25 season, making 32 appearances in League Two. However, his consistency at the back wasn't enough to prevent Carlisle from suffering a second successive relegation.
Now, with pressure mounting from supporters and a new-look ownership group demanding a cultural overhaul, Thomas is believed to be one of several senior players who could be moved on in the coming weeks.
FC Botoșani, who finished 14th in Romania's SuperLiga last season, are actively seeking experienced defensive options to strengthen their back line. Thomas' attributes - a tall, athletic, ball-playing centre-half with international experience - have reportedly made him an appealing target for the Romanian club.
Carlisle insiders have described a desire to shed what they see as a "deep-rooted losing mentality" within the dressing room. And while Thomas only arrived last summer, his potential departure would signal the beginning of a wider defensive rebuild under new management.
