Newport County drew 1-1 with Notts County in their opening game of the season. Crawley will welcome the Welsh side to Broadfield Stadium for their second League Two match of the campaign, aiming to put things right after a 3-0 defeat to Grimsby in their opener.

Newport, who were playing at home, took the lead almost immediately after the break through Gerard Garner, but Jodi Jones equalised from the spot 15 minutes later to salvage a point for the visitors.

After a delayed start due to a medical emergency in the stands, Notts County raced out of the blocks with a totally dominant first-half performance that was only missing a goal. The Magpies enjoyed 62 per cent possession before the break and registered ten shots to the Exiles' one.

Garner nipped in front of a static defence to head home from point-blank range at the start of the second half after a long throw from Lee Jenkins was flicked into his path, giving Newport the lead.

David Hughes tried to avoid a nervy final 30 minutes by making a handful of substitutions, but Newport's lead disappeared in the 65th minute after Jodi Jones coolly converted from the spot.

Newport managed to hold onto a point despite intense pressure from Notts County in the closing stages, giving them a solid start against last season's play-off semi-finalists.

The Exiles were forced to start their season early with an EFL Cup game midway through last week against Barnet, which they won 4-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw in normal time.

Their early start to the campaign gives Scott Lindsey and Crawley fans plenty to be hopeful for as they travel down to West Sussex, hoping to inflict further damage to the Reds shaky start to the season.
