Josh Windass has been announced as Wrexham's latest summer signing. The experienced forward has  put pen to paper on a three-year deal, following his departure from Sheffield Wednesday earlier this summer.

Windass left Hillsborough by mutual consent at the end of the 2024–25 season amid ongoing financial troubles at the club, which included issues with unpaid wages. Despite the turmoil, he enjoyed an impressive campaign, scoring 13 Championship goals. His 53-goal tally in all competitions for the Owls also makes him their leading scorer of the 21st century.

A seasoned Championship performer, Windass brings a wealth of experience to Phil Parkinson's newly promoted Wrexham side. The 30-year-old has amassed over 170 appearances and 40 goals in the second tier during spells with Rangers, Wigan Athletic, and Sheffield Wednesday.

Joining Wrexham on a free transfer, Windass is widely considered one of the most valuable signings of the summer window. Analysts suggest that if he can reproduce the form he has shown in recent seasons, he could prove to be one of the best free-agent additions across the entire division.

Reports suggest that Wrexham beat off stiff competition to land Windass, with late interest coming from Coventry City, Norwich City, and Derby County. Despite those offers, the Englishman opted for the Racecourse Ground after agreeing terms on a reported three-year deal.

Windass is Wrexham's fifth summer recruit, joining Liberato Cacace, George Thomason, Danny Ward, and others as the club prepares for its first season back in the Championship.
