Liverpool win against Fulham in Carabao Cup first leg to edge closer to the final

Liverpool responded to a poor first half to comeback and win the Carabao Cup first leg at Anfield 2-1 thanks to two quick goals from Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo which gives them the upper hand for the second leg at Craven Cottage.

Willian stunned the Reds in the 19th minute when he put Fulham 1-0 up after a Virgil Van Dijk mistake. The Brazilian's low shot found the bottom right corner to give his side the lead. Even with Liverpool having their fair share of chances, the visitors went into the break with a deserved lead.

However with a Jurgen Klopp team talk, Liverpool looked much more prepared for the second half. With the Reds forcing Fulham to defend it was only a matter of time before a equaliser would occur. Unluckily for Tosin Adarabioyo, Curtis Jones's shot deflected off the defenders back and into the top corner to make the score 1 a-piece. Three minutes later, the home side had found the back of the net to go ahead in the game for the first time. Substitute Cody Gakpo, flicked a low cross from Darwin Nunez past a frozen Bernd Leno to complete the comeback.

Even with a one goal lead, Liverpool searched hard for a third to give them a bigger advantage going into the second leg but were unable to find the back of the net due to a good performance from Leno who kept the Reds forwards at bay.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold injured, young defender Conor Bradley came into the starting lineup and took his chance well as he impressed with all his attributes throughout. His defensive skills was important to deny Willian another goal and the RB did well in his attacking play by moving the ball forward on many occasions.
