Liverpool 3:0 Aston Villa

03/09/2023

In a game which seemed to be a tight contest, it was a walk in the park as Liverpool picked up the three points against Aston Villa as we head into the international break.

Dominik Szoboszlai put Liverpool in front in the 3rd minute with a spectacular strike from outside the box. As the ball came in from the corner and missed every player in the box it was clear to see, he had no doubt in his mind what he was gonna do as he smashed it into the right hand side of the goal. This wonderful strike was his first of the season with many more likely to come.

20 minutes later Matty Cash put the ball into his own net to make it two for the reds. Trent Alexander-Arnold was able to pick out Mo Salah's run with a long ball who was able to tee up Darwin Nunez. His powerful strike smashed off the post and into the path of a running Cash who put it in the net due to not being able to move out of the way in time.

Joel Matip should have given Liverpool a third after a free header from a free kick which he put past the post.

Alison sprung to life with a brilliant save to deny Cash's powerful header from close range which was Villa's first threat of the game.

Alexander-Arnold once again was able to find a Running Salah on the right hand side who deliciously used the outside of his boot to cross for Nunez, It should have been a third as his header goes past the wrong side of the post.

Salah closed the game off in the 55th minute with a tap in after a flick on from the corner by Nunez was met by the Egyptian international.

After their rampant win against Hibernian in the week, Aston Villa  were no match for this Liverpool side as they took all three points. Defensively Villa clearly looked like they missed Tyrone Mings who were unavailable due to Injury as they were vulnerable throughout the game. Aston Villa's next game is at home to Crystal Palace who ran out 3:2 winners versus Wolves

Liverpool dominantly won the game with key performances from Alexander-Arnold and Szoboszlai who both played parts in the goals. However Alexander-Arnold did pick up an injury therefore Jurgen Klopp will be hoping it is not too serious.  Liverpool's next game is against Wolves on the 16th September before they begin their Europa League campaign away to LASK.
