It was a lacklustre performance from Turkey who struggled to create any dangerous chances despite having 11 shots at goal.

In particular Pepe, who is the oldest ever player at a men's European Championships put in an incredible performance in the heart of Portugal's defence to keep Turkey at bay

Bernardo Silva scored his first ever goal in a major tournament to give Portugal a deserved lead in the 21st minute. After a brilliant low cross into the box from Nuno Mendes, the Man City midfielder found himself in the perfect position to smash it past Altay Bayındır in the Turkish goal.

Seven minutes later Samet Akaydin bizarrely passed it back to his goalkeeper without looking or so he thought it was his goalkeeper. Bayındır could only stop and stare as the backpass from Akaydin rolled past him and into an empty net to gift Portugal a crucial second goal.

Bruno Fernandes tapped in the third when his former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo beat the offside trap to get in behind and square it to the midfielder who was faced with an empty net.

Ronaldo's assist means that he now has the most assists in European Championships with 8.

Arda Guler was subbed on with 20 minutes to play to try and salvage something for Turkey but he was unable to spirit a comeback which sees them remain on three points heading into their final group game against Czech Republic.
