Real Madrid Manage To Overcome a Tough RCD Mallorca Side
Antonio Rüdiger scored the only game of the game as he helped Real Madrid go into the halfway mark of the season top of the league. Mallorca was very tough to break down and it took a set piece for the visitors to concede. Luka Modric swung in a corner onto the penalty spot which was met by a rising Rudiger who put the ball in the top corner.
Los Blancos should have been ahead earlier than the opener when Brahim Diaz struck the post with a header from extremely close range. The ball bounced along the line after hitting the post but couldn't find a way into the net as it went away from goal.
This win sees Real Madrid extend their unbeaten run while ending Mallorca's 4 game unbeaten run. The visitors remain in 14th place with 18 points. Second place Girona play later today which could see them end up level on points with Real Madrid if they win against Atletico Madrid.
The first half ended goalless between the two sides with Real Madrid having dominated the majority of the half. However it was Mallorca who had the best chances as Antonio Sanchez hit the underside of the bar with a header before Cyle Larin fired wide in stoppage time. Mallorca hit the woodwork again early in the second half when Samu Costa fired a powerful low shot across goal but it smacked the foot of the post.
Real Madrid who had 70 percent possession in the first half did have chances though with their most dangerous efforts at goal having been through Jude Bellingham's header from a cross and Vinicius Junior powerful strike at goal which was pushed away by Predrag Rajković's strong hand.
