The 28-year-old, who has two England caps to his name, has agreed a three-year deal at the London Stadium. His arrival adds further depth to Graham Potter's defensive options as the Hammers continue to rebuild under their new manager.
Potter praised the new signing, saying: "He's a player I've admired for a long time. He's got top-level experience, great professionalism, and I believe his best football is still ahead of him."
Walker-Peters began his professional journey at Tottenham Hotspur before joining Southampton initially on loan in 2020. That move was made permanent later that year, and he went on to make over 200 appearances for the Saints. However, following their relegation from the Premier League last season, the defender opted to move on in search of a new challenge.
He came close to joining Turkish side Besiktas under former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær, but the move collapsed after the full-back delayed his medical due to renewed interest from West Ham.
Speaking about the decision, Walker-Peters said: "Graham Potter was a huge influence. I've always respected his coaching style and I believe it suits the way I like to play. West Ham have big ambitions and I'm excited to be part of what the manager is trying to build."
Walker-Peters becomes the third addition to West Ham's squad this summer, following the arrival of Senegalese defender El Hadji Malick Diouf from Slavia Prague for £19 million and the permanent signing of Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice.
